The Royal
College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) is situated in the
heart of Dublin. The College was founded in 1784 by Royal Charter.
The Medical
School is a recognised
college of the National University of Ireland (NUI), and graduates of
RCSI receive the MB BCh BAO degrees conferred by the National
University, as well as the historical qualifications LRCP & SI
(Licentiates of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in
Ireland).
The RCSI
building dates from 1810
and is one of Dublin's best-known historical landmarks. However, there
is nothing traditional about the resources, facilities and staffing of
the Medical School. Behind the historical façade
is a new modern,
purpose-built facility, with an adjoining medical library, one of the
most modern in Europe. Student accommodation is available on-campus.
Over 50
countries are represented
in the student population of approximately one thousand. Students, upon
graduation are equipped with medical qualifications and skills that are
held in high international regard.
