PETALING JAYA: Students will be spoilt for choice at this weekend’s Star Education Fair 2017.

More than 150 local and foreign institutions will be offering study options and programmes during the event at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Those interested to pursue medicine as a career can meet Malaysia’s top medical experts who will share their insights on medicine and healthcare during a series of talks.

The subjects range from how to succeed in the medical field to surgery as well as dentistry.

Penang Medical College dean and head of Department of Surgery Prof N. Premnath are among the experts who will be present to help students understand the life of a surgeon.

Prof Premnath, who is also a consultant surgeon at the institution, will give a talk titled “Surgery – A Profession Of A Lifetime” on the first day of the Education and Career Talks.

His talk will enlighten students on what a surgical career entails, advances in the surgical field and how to gain entry to a medical school.

“The highlight of my talk is about surgical options as well as to let students know that graduating from medical school does not make you a surgeon,” said Prof Premnath in an interview.

International Medical University (IMU) School of Medicine dean Prof Datuk Dr Kew Siang Tong will give a presentation on “Changing Landscape In Medicine”.

Her talk will focus on the major changes in medicine, healthcare and medical education.

Dr Kew will also speak to potential medical students on setting appropriate expectations.

MAHSA University head of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Prof Mohan Alexander, who has 30 years of experience under his belt, will give a presentation titled “The Tooth, The Whole Tooth And Nothing But The Tooth?”

His talk aims to spark students’ interest in dentistry.

Monash University Malaysia Medical Microbiology Prof Parasakthi Navaratnam will give a presentation titled “Career In Medicine”.

The Star Education Fair 2017 will be held on Jan 7 and 8 at Exhibition Halls One to Five, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, from 11am to 7pm. Admission is free.
