Penang Medical College is owned by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and University College Dublin (UCD). Undergraduate medical students spend the first half of their medical training in Dublin and return to Penang to complete their medical training and receive a National University of Ireland medical degree. In 2016 PMC celebrated 20 years in Malaysia – with almost 1,500 PMC medical graduates now working throughout Malaysia. PMC also offers postgraduate programmes and undertakes impacting research.
Professor Whitford says: “I am thrilled to have been given this opportunity to join the senior management team at Penang Medical College at this time of growth and expansion. I am looking forward to working alongside Professor Stephen Doughty, staff and faculty at PMC and with UCD and RCSI to further develop, expand and enhance the education and research delivered in Penang Medical College.”
On behalf of UCD and RCSI, we are delighted to welcome Professor David Whitford to PMC. His expertise in delivering medicine in an international environment is extensive and particularly opportune as we celebrate 20 years of success for PMC. Professor Whitford will be working alongside the President and CEO, Professor Doughty to drive forward PMC and I am certain that the staff and senior administration in UCD and RCSI will support him in this new role.
